Outlaws Pick up Big Win Over Steelers

Saskatoon, SK - The Outlaws got on the board early and kept rolling all game to pick up their first win of the season over the Steelers.

Scott Zelensky got the Outlaws on the board just 1:28 into the game after he picked up a Ryan Potie rebound and quickly put it behind goaltender Erik Derkson. The scored held at 1-0 until 10:48 left in the period when the Steelers got their first of the game to tie it up 1-1. The Outlaws answered quickly though. Ethan Kennedy made it 2-1 Outlaws just under a minute later. Zelensky got back on the board and doubled the Outlaws lead with 6:36 to go in the first. About two and a half minutes later, Kennedy got his second of the night to make it 4-1 for the Outlaws. Scott Zelensky wasn’t done yet and scored to make it 5-1 with 1:23 left in the period.

The Outlaws looked to extend their lead in the second. However, the Outlaws were unable to find the back of the net in the second. Saskatoon would put 3 behind Tanner Fetch in the period and the Outlaws would go into the final stanza up 5-4.

After a dismal performance in the second period. the Outlaws needed a spark to get going. And Kallen Currie would ignite the fire scoring just 43 seconds into the third to make it 6-4. the Steelers would score 6 minutes later to cut the Outlaws lead in half and make it 6-5. At the 9:33 mark of the third period, Arliss Mcloy caught the Steelers sleeping on a quick transition play and made it 7-5 for the Outlaws. The Steelers would strike back about 2 minutes later to make it 7-6. Kallen Currie would extend the lead again with 8:26 to go to make it 8-6. A few minutes later Ryan Potie would get his first of the game to go up 9-6 for the Outlaws. The Steelers jumped on their chances late in the game and buried a powerplay goal to make it 9-7 with 1:23 left in the game. Late in the game with the Steelers net empty, they looked to get a few quick ones to even the score. An outside shot by a Steelers player missed the net and went off the back boards and bounced all the way back into the empty Saskatoon net. Tanner Fetch was the last to touch the ball and was credited with the goal to make it 10-7 for the Outlaws with 13.7 seconds left in the game.

Scott Zelensky picked up 3 goals in the contest. Ethan Kennedy and Kallen Currie each picked up 2 goals and an assist. Tanner Fetch got his first win of the season and also scored his first goal.

The Outlaws are back in action at home on June 3 when the take on the S.W.A.T. at 8:00 pm at the Kinsmen Arena.
