Outlaws Drop Home Opener to Heat

Prince Albert, SK - The Prince Albert Outlaws took the the floor at the Kinsmen Arena for the first time since 2019 but fell to the Regina Heat 12 - 8.

The party at the Kinsmen got off to an early start in this one. Brendin Currie found the back of the net just 1:09 into the game. Regina would strike back quickly when Fraiser Belanger tied things up just over a minute later. Kurtis Peifer welcomed himself to the PGLL Senior Division when he scored his first goal of his rookie season with a beautiful crease dive to put the Outlaws ahead by 1 at the 4:38 mark of the period. Kallen Currie would double up the Outlaws lead with his first career senior goal at the 7:32 mark. Shortly after that is when things started to go bad for the Outlaws as they took 4 penalties in the final 10 minutes of the first period. Including give the Heat a 5-on-3 powerplay which they would score on twice. The Heat would go on to score 5 goals in the last half of the first to take a 6-3 lead after 20 minutes.

The Outlaws looked to claw back in the second period. Kallen Currie would get his second of the night just over 3 minutes into the second period. Regina’s Adam Stewart would respond quickly for the Heat to make it 7-4. Ethan Kennedy would score his first career goal as an Outlaw at the 8:51 mark of the period on the powerplay to make it 7-5. A little over 3 minutes later, Kennedy would score again to bring the Outlaws within a goal. Then just 28 seconds later Kallen Currie found a streaking Brody Holizki who would score on the breakaway to tie the game at 7. The game remained tied until 4:29 left in the period when Stewart would add another to go up 8-7. Regina would then score 2 more in the next minute to go up 10-7 after the second period.

The Outlaws looked to climb back in the third period but Regina had different plans. The Heat would add 2 more goals in the first half of the third period to go up 12-7. Ryan Potie would pick up his first of the new campaign when he scored off an Ethan Kennedy rebound with 8:03 left to go to make it 12-8.

Both goaltenders were able to hold off the other team and Regina would walk away with the 12-8 victory over the Outlaws.

Kallen Currie finished the game with 2 goals and 3 assists, while Ryan Potie finished with 1 goal and 3 assists. Lucas Wells made 42 saves in the loss.

The Outlaws next game will be Saturday May 14 in Regina for the back half of the home-and-home series with the Heat.
